Our History

8th Floor Improv Comedy Group was formed in the Winter of 2004 by six friends who lived on the 8th Floor of Stradley Hall. Their goal was to create an environment to learn and perform improv comedy at The Ohio State University.

In its first year, the group performed eight shows for different residence halls and dining halls around campus. Following this humble beginning, 8th Floor shifted its focus to become more professional by holding auditions and increasing cast size, securing an office at the Ohio Union, and seeking out a wider variety of performance venues.

Through performances for Relay for Life, OSU Forensics, and Buckeyethon, 8th Floor began contributing to the students of The Ohio State University. Weekly shows at the South Campus Gateway Theatre allowed the group to find a unique onstage voice, and introductions to other college teams (as well as the founding of our own festival) paved the way for 8th Floor to perform all across the country.

In 2010, 8th Floor began performing monthly shows in the Ohio Union's US Bank Conference Theatre, which remains our home venue to this day.
